Hi, I’m Tyber Savin! I’m a freelance Character Designer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I specialize in creating characters and illustrations that have a whimsical fantasy element to them. I accomplish this using soft lines and vibrant pastel color palettes, as well as drawing from my childhood love for fantasy and fairytale narratives. My work is specifically tailored to 2D animation, though I am open to other mediums like video games and book illustration.
Regardless of medium, my goal as an artist is to create character designs that are charming, memorable, and have clever design elements, all while suiting the stories that they were made for. Stories are one of the most impactful tools in our culture today that can inspire new ideas and bring to light old yet relevant truths, and a story’s characters are crucial in accomplishing this. A character’s visual design is obviously important, but I also believe that the themes and messages that each character symbolizes are just as–if not, more–important, and a successful character design uses these themes to influence their visual development. To bridge this gap, I practice in-depth studies of the characters I create, including visual development, character turnarounds, and expression sheets.
I am actively seeking apprentice roles and freelance work. Let’s create some new stories!
